Thursday Thoughts for Parents | "The Revelation of God in Adoption"

Thursday parenting featured

This post is based on Michael Granger's sermon, The Revelation of God in Adoption, given on November 26, 2017.

Who are some people in your life who love you SO much? How do you know that they love you? Do they show you in specific ways that they love you? I'd guess you probably say that your mommy and your daddy or maybe your sister or your brother love you so much – and you'd be 100% right! But did you know that there is someone else who loves you even more than your mom or your brother or your grandfather ever could?

God has loved you even before the world existed and even before the sun shone for the first time! And God doesn't just love you like a friend at school loves you or like you love pizza – God loves you so much to bring you into his very own family. This action by God is called "adoption" in the Bible and happens when we put our faith in Jesus Christ and believe that Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins. When this happens God calls us his own son or daughter – what an amazing family to be in!

Read Ephesians 1:4-6 as a family and think about these questions:

  • What are some benefits or privileges you have by being a part of your family? What benefits and privileges do you have now as a part of God's family?
  • How should we act and live now that we are a part of God's family?
  • Did you do anything to earn a spot in the family of God? Why did God adopt you to be a part of His family?
