Thursday Thoughts for Parents | "The Joyful Journey"

Thursday parenting featured

This post is based on CJ Mahaney's sermon, The Joyful Journey, given on November 5, 2017.

Lots of kids get excited when they think about the start of a new school year. Then, they begin to look forward to their summer vacation. Take a minute and think about the things you find yourself looking forward to.  What comes to mind that you’re excited about?

David was going to gather in Jerusalem with people from every tribe of Israel to worship the one living God.  He looked forward to praising God with people from different walks of life in unity before the One who had demonstrated His faithfulness in saving His people.

Just like David, we regularly look forward to our opportunities to gather together.  We gather each Sunday with the Church, the people of God.  Those that come together are men and women who recognize their desperate need for salvation that only comes through the saving work of Jesus on the cross.  We gather to GIVE THANKS to His name!  What an event to look forward to each week!

In Psalm 122, David is looking forward to something.  Read the whole Psalm together and then answer these questions:

  • Where is David going?
  • Why do you think David is glad?
  • What is David looking forward to?

Today is Thursday, and that means we only have three more days before we get to gather together to once again praise God for his mighty deeds done on our behalf.  Let’s look forward with eager anticipation.  Let’s pray with expectation for the unity of our church as we gather.  Let’s wake up on Sunday morning with joy in our hearts as we consider our faithful Savior whose sacrifice made a way for us to be redeemed.
