Sermon Overview & Discussion Questions: "The Most Unlikely Convert"

Overview of Sermon:

Saul, a violent enemy of the church, goes to Damascus to persecute Christians. But on the way there, God blinds him with a light from heaven. In a surprising turn of events, the seemingly “unsavable” Saul encounters the risen Lord and is radically transformed. Then, God sends an ordinary Christian to open Saul’s blind eyes—Ananias. Ananias courageously welcomes Saul into the church that Saul meant to destroy.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Unthinkable just a couple days prior, Ananias addresses Saul as “Brother Saul” (verse 17). Are there previously ‘unthinkable’ brothers or sisters in your life? What can you recall about God’s saving grace towards them?
  2. Who shared the gospel with you? What can you specifically recall from your conversations with them?
  3. Who do you know who seems unsavable and how did this sermon give you fresh hope for them?
  4. C.J. pointed out that Saul’s conversion is a picture of our own conversion stories. How can you praise God for how he saved you?
